40 gig cigarette pack sized drive
I've been looking for an extra-small external drive for quite a while and have been underwhelmed by the price per gigabyte value. The best I'd found was a 1.5 gig drive at Comp USA for $150 including a $50 instant discount.
This Apricorn EZ bus mini 40GB drive leapfrogs ahead of the pack, with a <$250 price street price tag in a tiny form factor.

It depends what you're going to use it for, but an iPod can work pretty well as an external hard drive.
